Bhaja Govindam – Sloka 31: Gurucaraṇāmbuja Nirbhara Bhaktaḥ
Where do we ultimately discover the Divine?

With unwavering devotion at the lotus feet of the Guru, the seeker receives the guidance necessary to move beyond the bonds of worldly existence. But devotion must also be accompanied by inner discipline. By learning to regulate the senses and steady the mind, the seeker gradually becomes free from the distractions that obscure deeper awareness.
Shankaracharya then points toward a profound realization: the Divine we seek externally is ultimately discovered within. When the mind becomes disciplined and clear, we begin to recognize the presence that has always existed in the depths of our own heart.
The verse reminds us that the Guru does not merely provide knowledge. The Guru guides the seeker toward direct realization—helping us discover within ourselves the truth we have been searching for elsewhere.
