Bhaja Govindam – Sloka 22: Rathyā Carpaṭa Viracita Kanthaḥ
What does true freedom look like when the mind is no longer bound by worldly distinctions?
In this episode of Hari Kavi Explains, we reflect on the twenty-second sloka of Bhaja Govindam, where Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya presents the image of a yogi who has moved beyond attachment to possessions, social conventions, and even the distinctions of merit and demerit.
Clothed simply in garments made from discarded rags, the yogi's mind remains completely absorbed in Yoga and the realization of the Self. Free from the usual concerns of worldly life, he rejoices with the spontaneity of a child and appears unconcerned with the judgments and expectations of society.
The verse reminds us that genuine freedom does not depend upon what we possess or how the world perceives us. It arises when the mind is released from attachment and rests naturally in inner awareness.
