Honouring Musicologist Sri Suri Venkateswarlu

We are delighted to share this special video of the felicitation of Sri Suri Venkateswarlu, in recognition of his lifelong contributions to Carnatic music, musicology, and the preservation of the rich musical heritage of Saint Thyagaraja.

A scholar by training with degrees in Arts and Law, Sri Suri Venkateswarlu pursued a distinguished professional career with the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) while simultaneously dedicating decades to the study, teaching, and promotion of Carnatic music. His research and writings on Saint Thyagaraja have earned him wide respect among musicians, scholars, and devotees alike.

His contributions include authoring five books on Saint Thyagaraja, serving as an Asthana Vidwan of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham, leading Vignana Samithi, Hyderabad as its President, and organizing the annual Thyagaraja Aradhana celebrations in Hyderabad for over five decades—an extraordinary commitment to preserving one of India's greatest musical traditions.

This felicitation, organized by Vipanchi, celebrates a lifetime devoted to scholarship, music, and cultural service.

In the coming months, we also hope to present a dedicated podcast and a detailed biographical article exploring Sri Suri Venkateswarlu's life, his research, his publications, and his enduring contribution to the world of Carnatic music.

This article is the first in Shikshak's ongoing effort to document the lives and contributions of distinguished scholars, musicians, and cultural custodians who have enriched India's spiritual and musical heritage.
